Who inspired this tee?
Countess Markievicz, born Constance Gore-Booth, was a key figure in the 1916 Easter Rising in Ireland. She was a prominent Irish nationalist, suffragette, and a member of the Gaelic League. During the Easter Rising, she served as a gunrunner and was second-in-command of the Irish Citizens Army in the St. Stephen's Green area of Dublin.
Markievicz was notable for being one of the few women to hold a significant role in the rebellion, and she became a symbol of women's involvement in the struggle for Irish independence. After the rising, she was arrested and sentenced to death, but her sentence was commuted due to her gender, making her the first woman to hold a ministerial position in Ireland when she later served as the Minister for Labour in the revolutionary government. Her contributions reflect her commitment to both Irish nationalism and social justice, cementing her legacy as a pioneering figure in Irish history.
